Remove the spring and steel cone.
Check and, if necessary, change rubber
ring or steel cone with rubber buffer.
Check and, if necessary, renew the bot-
tom spring seat bearing (the pivot plate
bearing).

Installation

If the spring has been taken out of the
compression tool or when fitting a new
spring, locate the colour-coded cup
right beside the end of the coil, and
hook the upper shanks of the tool over
the second turn from the top.

Compress the spring. Place the steel
cone and rubber ring in the top of the
coil.

Locate the spring on its bottom seat.
Slacken off gradually on the compres-
sion, guiding the steel cone into its seat
in the wheel housing. Remove the com-
pression tool. If the bottom seat has
been removed, it is advisable when re-
assembling to mount the seat loosely
and wait until after the spring is in
place before securing the seat, which
will automatically take up the correct
position due to pressure from the
spring.

Place a jack under the outer end of the
lower control arm and raise the end
slightly as the shock absorber is guided
into position. Secure the shock ab-
sorber. Remove the jack,

Fit the wheel.
Remove the blocks and lower the front
wheels to the ground.

Mouldings and emblems, as from 1981 mo-
dels

The mouldings on 1981 model cars are
wider than before. There is a silver stripe
along the lower edge of the otherwise
black moulding. When replacing individual
mouldings, fit the new moulding so that the
silver stripe lines up with adjacent mould-
ings. When fitting all new mouldings, line
up the silver stripe with that of the bum-
per.

Location of emblems on bonnet (hood)

During the 1983 model year, the mouldings
between the wheel housings were raised by
approx. 10 mm. When replacing the
moulding on one side of older cars, there-
fore, check the height of the moulding on
the other side. The measurements given
apply to later models.

As from 1984 models, the front and rear
side mouldings have been replaced by
mouldings that are an extension of the
bumpers. These are secured to the wings
or side panels by screws with plastic nuts.

Striker plate: to adjust

The striker plate, which is in the form of a
socket-head screw, can be adjusted in its
free fit mounting hole once it has been
slackened using a hexagonal key.

The pressure of the luggage compartment
door against its contact surface, its seal
and position can also be adjusted using the
two adjustable stops. These are screwed in
or out until the correct position is ob-
tained.

Lock cylinder, to replace

The key should be inserted before dismant-
lig the lock to prevent the cylinder com-
ponents from separating.

Use two screwdrivers to spring the driver
off the cylinder. The cylinder is now free
and can be removed from the sleeve. A
new plastic lock ring must be fitted on the
barrel when assembling the lock because
the old ring is damaged when dismantling.
Once the lock ring has been fitted the
cylinder is inserted into the sleeve and the
driver pressed on.
