To fit the water pump
1. Clean thoroughly the joint face for
the pump caver, and measure the
distanee from the joint face down
to the bearing shoulder. The
dimension should be 2.42 in +t
0.006 (61.5°+ 0.15 mm).

pump shaft, together with the
bearing and circlip, into the
engine block.
Ensure that the teeth engage
smoothly and that the shaft
enters freely into the tail-end
bearing.
3. Press the pump shaft dow into
the engine block, using press

wrench and tighten to a torque
of 10 Nn.
If the pump shaft is im the correct
pasition, tha depth from the joint
face to the bearing will be 2.14 in

prevent the impelier fran
rotating, so that no loads will
be applied to the teeth when the
nut is tightened. N.B. The shaft
end and nut have Left-hand
threads.

Followed up with the restrainer,
| Note:
The torque must not be exceeded,
the shaft is brittle and can break.
Note:
The nut must be released clockwise,
and the restrainer must therefore be
i fitted for the opposite restraining
direction.
Remove the nut fran the purp shaft.
8. Fit the pump cover without its
gasket, and check that the cover
is clear of the pump shaft and
impeller,

IGNITION SYSTEM
Ignition coil
General
The ignition coil is made by Bosch. It is of high-output
type and requires a series resistance. When the starter is
switched on, the series resistance is disconnected and bat-
tery voltage is fed direct to the ignition coil, but when
the starter is switched off again, the series resistance
comes into function and reduces the current to the coil.
The ignition coil with seriesresistance is located on the
left front wheel housing.
Removing and installing the ignition coil
Removing
1, Disconnect the wiring from the coil.
2. Undo the clamping screws and withdraw the coil.
Installing
1. Tighten the two screws to clamp the oil in position.
2. Connect the wiring. See fig.
IGNITION COIL AND SERIES RESISTANCE
Inspecting the ignition coil
1. Disconnect the wiring.
2. Connect test equipment and check the coil as follows:
a. Measure the primary winding resistance between
terminals 1 and 15. Test value, see Chapter 0.
b. Measure coil performance in volts or spark Jength.
Note: Check that the breaker gap and closing angle
of the distributor are correct.
NOTE
Faults, if present, can often only be detected when
the coil has warmed up, In case of doubt, leave the
coil connected under load on the test bench for
half an hour; it should still function perfectly at
the end of this time.
