Brake lights 127
Operation
The supply to brake light switch 29 is taken from fuse
31, via the 29-pole white connector 152A. When the
car is braked, the contacts will close and brake lamps
30 will be energised.
Depending on the market, one or two lamps (30) are
used on each side for the brake lights. When two
lamps are used, the second lamp is connected by
means of cable 132A, cable 132B or connector 269.
European market (3-D, 5-D)
Cable 132A (3-D, 5-D) is not used and connector
269 (2-D, 4-D) is not fitted. Only one lamp on each
side will light up when the brakes are applied. (The
extra lamps are used for the rear fog lights instead.)
Australian, Middle-Eastern and Far-Eastern
markets
Cable 132A (3-D, 5-D) is used and connector 269
(2-D, 4-D) is fitted, so two lamps light up on each
side of the car. °
U.S.A., Canadian and Japanese markets
On cars for these markets, cable 132A (3-D) and
cable 138B (2-D, 4-D) is used, so two lamps light up
on each side of the car.
These cars are also equipped with high-level brake
light 109 (US, CA) which is located at the bottom of
the rear window. On the 3-D model, the brake lights
are connected to the left-hand rear light fittings in
the tailgate via two single-pole connectors, and on
the 2-D and 4-D models (US, CA) via one 2-pole
connector (59).
On the Convertible, high-level brake light 109 (US,
CA) is located in the spoiler and is connected by
means of two 2-pole connectors 59. The connectors
are located at the left-hand hinge of the boot lid.
Fault-tracing hints
Ae
Check fuse 31 and check that the supply to it is
live.
Check that the supply to brake light switch 29 is
live.
Operate the brake light switch. Check the bulbs
and check that the supplies to them are live.
Check the earthing at each lamp.
Check the connectors, cable harnesses and
earth connections.

Reversing lights 131
Operation
The supply to reversing light switch 31 is taken from
fuse 13, via 29-pole white connector 152A. When
the reverse gear is engaged, the contacts will close
and reversing lamps 32 will light up.
Cars for certain markets of certain models are
equipped with side reversing lights 119, located in
the front light clusters. The side reversing lights are
supplied from the reversing light switch via connector
152A.
Fault-tracing hints
The reversing lights are switched on when reverse
gear is engaged and the ignition switch is in the drive
position.
1. Check fuse 13 and check that the supply to it is
live.
2. Check that the reversing light switch terminals
are live.
3. Check the bulbs and check that the supplies to
them are live. Check the earthing at each lamp.
4. Check the connectors. and the relevant cable
harness.
